A Disaster Preparedness Web Site is now available, offering essential information to organizations and individuals who collect art objects, books, papers, and other valuable cultural artifacts.
The site features:
The site is the latest project of the Michigan Alliance for conservation of Cultural Heritage, a statewide organization of libraries, archives, museums, historical societies and preservation networks founded in 1988. The Detroit Institute of Arts developed and maintains it for the Alliance.
The Alliance's goals are to promote public discussion among citizens of the value of our cultural resources; to be active advocates of conservation through workshops and public forums; help statewide organizations coordinate attention to the jeopardized condition of Michigan's cultural artifacts, and to foster action by individuals, organizations and government to ensure the vitality and continuity of our cultural heritage.
For more information, see the site or contact Susan Bandes, Alliance president, at 517/353-9836 or Barbara Heller, head conservator, Detroit Institute of Arts at 313/833-7834.
